GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gaston Day School, with many students from the Lake Wylie area, will host the McDonald's Spartan Tip-Off Tournament featuring two of the top national high school basketball teams.

When I am angry, I meander down the walking trails in my neighborhood and stop at Lake Wylie. When I am stumped over what sentence comes next in a story, I take a breather and go to stare at the water. When I am overwhelmed, nervous, even frightened, I go to the lake, and I am assured by its flowing that everything will be OK.

Boating at night can be an enjoyable part of the recreational boating experience. But it also can be dangerous.

• Largemouth Bass: Good. Fish can be located shallow, and topwater lures, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jig n pigs, and plastic worms are all working.

• Lighthouse Marine Service Inc. offers its final safe boating class of the season, taught by U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lake Wylie Public Library, 185 Blucher Circle, Lake Wylie.
