McCanns ponder film on missing Madeleine

(Published January 8‚ 2008)

LONDON (AP) The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann have held talks with a U.S. entertainment company regarding the making of a film about their daughter's disappearance, a family spokesman said Tuesday.

Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said he and another family representative met with IMG Media last month.

"If we feel any particular proposal in the media has validity in helping us find Madeleine, we are happy to discuss it," Mitchell said.

Mitchell said a film would be considered only if it helped raise awareness of the case, emphasizing that nothing had been agreed.

IMG spokesman Jim Gallagher confirmed that representatives of London-based Darlow Smithson, an IMG subsidiary that produces television programs, met with McCann family representatives.

He said the company talked about the possibility of a documentary following the ongoing search for Madeleine, adding that discussions were still at an early stage and the issue of money had not been raised.
Madeleine McCann disappeared from a Portuguese resort on May 3, a few days before her fourth birthday.

Portuguese police have named the parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, as formal suspects. They maintain their innocence, and no one has been charged in connection with the disappearance.
